Sometimes all you need is a little splash of colour

The walls are your canvas…

Natalia Greenan, Designer

It is no secret that a quick lick of paint will freshen up any room. Kitchens, however, can often present a challenge when looking to add a splash of colour. With walls of cabinets, appliances and open spaces it can be hard to know where to add this. A simple yet effective way is by adding an accent colour to an adjacent wall or a feature block. This is one of the most effective ways of adding a colourful dynamic to a space whilst retaining the ability to easily change over time. If you fall out of love with the colour, you can just paint it again and again.

Can’t decide? Choose both…

Another effective, slightly more daring, is a two-tone kitchen. This can be achieved by selecting two different but complementary colours for various elements of the cabinets. With the right tone combination this method can be applied to any size or style of kitchen from modern to traditional and anywhere in-between. This can be a fantastic solution and with Störmer having the ability to manufacture parts in any colour, the combinations are truly endless. Lighter tones are generally recommended for smaller spaces as they often benefit from maximising light, however, larger spaces can often allow for darker tones and this can help to create mood.

Bonnie Tiler…

Making their comeback, tiles are firmly cementing their place as a kitchen splashback favourite. After all, they have been used for more than 6000 years! Tiling is a great way to add colour and texture to a kitchen and can help to elevate monochromatic and flat slab kitchens. With varying shapes, colours, sizes, patterns and textures, the world of tiles is infinite. Most people are familiar with the use of tiles as a splashback; however, they can be so much more. We have experimented with using them for different part of the kitchen like on the back side of a breakfast bar or island.
